Why is there a gap?
The Government’s indexation of Medicare rebates has not kept pace with the rising cost of practice. On average, AWE and CPI increase by 3.3% per year to cover the rising costs of practice. Medicare rebates only increase by 2.1% per year.
The difference is a decrease in the value of your rebate. Making your rebate worth less every year.
This image above from the AMA illustrates how the 'gap' has widened over the last 30 years.
Fees will vary according to the time and treatment necessary.
Our reception staff can inform you on our practice fees.
It is a requirement that patients settle their account at the time of consultation, the Medicare rebate is claimable at the time of your payment. Health Care Card Holders and Pensioners aged between 16 and 65 are charged a private fee. Children under 16, Pensioners over 65 and Veteran Affairs are bull billed. There may be additional theatre fee for minor surgery and skin cancer removals.
For advice on out-of-pocket costs when seeing your GP or being referred to a specialist, please speak to our reception staff.
Appointments
When booking your appointment please advise the receptionist if you have a special requirement that may need additional time or the nurses attention. Consultations such as completion of paperwork, pap smears, multiple or complicated problems, minor surgical procedures, drivers licence and pre-employment medicals all require either additional time or the nurse attention.
Home Visits
If you are a regular patient of the practice and are too unwell to attend the surgery, you may request the Doctor to do a home visit by contacting reception.
